Plans to create a footpath behind a Suffolk masonic hall progressed

Plans to create a footpath behind a Suffolk masonic hall have progressed after a district council approved a change of use application.

East Suffolk Council has given the go ahead for the change of use of land behind Sir Robert Hitcham Almshouses and the Masonic Hall in New Road, Framlingham.

The site is currently designated for community use and the plans involve changing the use to residential to create the path to provide emergency access for residents and the maintenance team of the Almshouses.

In a statement with the plans, the agents Rees Pryer Architects, acting on behalf of Orwell Housing Association, said there were the remaining walls of a red brick shed between the boundary of the Masonic Hall and the Almshouses.

However, the agents said although the hall and Almshouses had Grade II-listed building status, they had been advised by East Suffolk heritage office Karolien Yperman that the walls were not considered part of the listed building and were of “no historic value”.
